June is Audiobook Month! In celebration, here are a few of my recent and all-time favorites:
by Sheila Turnage
Delightful mystery featuring Mo LoBeau and her sidekick Dale Earnhardt Johnson, III. Narrator Michal Friedman gives just the right Southern cadence and spunk to this heartwarming tale.
2. Okay for Now
by Gary D. Schmidt
One of my very favorite books of 2011. I read it in print and listened to the audio. Both = home run.
3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
This outstanding book is truly unforgettable on audio. Even author John Green said he might prefer the audio version. :) The narrator's voice is absolutely perfect as the indomitable Hazel Grace.
4. Anything written and narrated by Jack Gantos!
5. Blood Red Road
by Moira Young
This epic dystopic tale will absolutely captivate you. It is written in a unique dialect of the author's creation, and is therefore, a bit challenging for some readers. The audio is a perfect way to enjoy the poetic saga. Writing this reminds me I need to download the sequel, Rebel Heart, for a summer listen!

These beloved tales of Anne Shirley are a delectable treat.
To Kill a Mockingbird
by Harper Lee
I've mentioned this before, but can't possible post about audio books without mentioning it again. To Kill a Mockingbird read by Sissy Spacek is purely sublime.
Two very different adult memoirs, one inspiring and one hilarious ....

I greatly admire this amazing lady and enjoyed every syllable of her narrated memoir.
Bossypants
by Tina Fey
This comedy genius recounts her life experiences as a child, student, amateur comedian, and Saturday Night Live writer in this hilarious audiobook.
One more not-to-miss series, particularly for the mystery fan or Anglophile...
The Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley
These mysteries starring the feisty, funny 11-year-old sleuth, Flavia de Luce, are true indulgences on audio. She is like a British Nancy Drew with a lot more spunk & sass!
These are just a few of the standouts from my audio reads. I always have one going and highly recommend the practice. It's the perfect remedy for long (or even short!) commutes.
You can check out CDs or download using Overdrive from your local library. Also, I highly recommend Audible. You pay a monthly subscription fee to download a book a month (like Netflix for audiobooks).
One more resource I just heard about from a friend and fellow librarian is Sync. This website offers two downloads - a contemporary YA novel and a classic - each week throughout the summer. What a great way to build your audio library!
If you haven't tried or become a fan of the audio format, this is the perfect month to give it a whirl. Pop one in on your next drive or road trip. Take time to get used to the narrator and let the story start to unfold; you just might develop another literary addiction! :)
